CECINA – The participatory journey of the TREESURE project has reached a new fundamental milestone. Following the session on May 15th, which focused on technology and student training within the coastal pine forest, the initiative moved to the Cecina Municipal Library on May 22nd, transforming it into a hub for civic dialogue and decision-making.
The Tabletop Role-Playing Game: A Tool for Stakeholder Engagement
Following the initial phase involving university students, the second session extended participation to a broader range of local stakeholders. Two dedicated gaming sessions were attended by the Mayor of Cecina, municipal technical and administrative staff, the Carabinieri Forestali, Civil Protection (VAB), and citizens interested in urban forest management.
A Surprising Exchange of Perspectives: Role Reversal
The core of the activity utilized a tabletop role-playing game to facilitate a “role reversal” exercise. Through simulation dynamics, participants engaged in a unique experience of institutional empathy:
- Public administrators took on the roles of forestry technicians, managing scientific data and risk assessment reports.
- Technical experts and law enforcement officers stepped into the shoes of decision-makers, managing social and administrative pressures during simulated emergencies.
This exchange highlighted the specific challenges faced by each sector, emphasizing the scientific precision required for technical roles and the complex weight of responsibility that rests on administrative figures.
The success of the event was the result of seamless coordination between the DAGRI of the University of Florence, VAB, the Municipality of Cecina, Bluebiloba, and CREP.
Towards the Future of Forest Management
The organizers wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to all participants for their enthusiasm. A special thanks goes to the Municipality of Cecina and the entire Municipal Administration for their availability and wonderful hospitality, which made this initiative possible.
The TREESURE project now continues its work in developing tools that make tree failure risk management not only more technological but also more collaborative and transparent for the entire community.
