On Friday, May 15, the TREESURE project will organize a student field exercise in Cecina dedicated to innovation in tree risk assessment, digital data acquisition and participatory communication strategies.
The initiative will represent an important opportunity for collaboration between TREESURE and Sintetic, highlighting how cooperation between projects can strengthen research activities, technological development and environmental education.
The morning session will focus on testing a tabletop role-playing game developed within the TREESURE project. During the activity, university of Florence students will actively participate as players in an interactive experience designed to explore new ways of communicating and collecting information related to tree failure risk. The game will allow participants to approach complex topics such as prevention, safety and tree risk management through collaborative dynamics and innovative communication methods. In the afternoon the activities will move to the pine forest of Cecina, where students will take part in field data acquisition and structural characterization activities using several digital tools and technologies. Participants will work in groups to ensure that everyone can experience the different operational phases. The exercise will include surveys with a mobile laser scanner, as well as the use of LiDAR-equipped iPads running the TreeScanner application for structural tree assessment. At the same time, thanks to the collaboration with the Sintetic project, participants will also collect information on forest fuels through the FuelMAPP application, developed within Sintetic. This integration of tools, expertise and methodologies will demonstrate the added value generated by collaboration between complementary research initiatives.
The field activities in the pine forest will also benefit from the presence and support of the Carabinieri Forestali Biodiversità di Cecina, contributing their expertise in forest ecosystem management and biodiversity protection.
The Cecina exercise will further demonstrate how TREESURE aims to create not only scientific and technological innovation, but also strong networks of collaboration among universities, students, institutions and partner projects such as Sintetic. Through practical activities, advanced digital tools and participatory approaches, the project will continue to promote shared knowledge and sustainable environmental management.
